Fresh Rotary trees are selling fast

Christmas trees are prepped for shipping to the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise.
LAHAINA — Eight-foot noble fir Christmas trees — almost as fresh as when they were cut — are selling briskly along the lawn of Lahaina Cannery Mall.
The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise has them available for purchase from refrigerated containers sent directly from one of the largest tree plantations in the nation at Corvallis, Oregon.
“Trees everyone sells are always called fresh, but these truly are,” said Rotarian Robyn Downer.
These trees from a family business begin as seedlings cultivated by Holiday Tree Farms. Trees are constantly trimmed during the year to give them good shape. They are cut and delivered in a massive operation by seven helicopters to shipping points. The company sells a million trees a year.
Proceeds from tree sales will benefit Rotary-supported community organizations.
“The trees are priced at $70, but this is well worth it considering they stay fresh in warm Maui homes throughout December,” said club President Charles Keoho.
