O Bon Festival slated

By Staff | Jun 4, 2009

LAHAINA — The first O Bon dance of the season will be held at Lahaina Shingon Mission, 862 Luakini St., on Saturday, June 6.

An O Bon service will be held at 6:30 p.m., and the dancing will start at 7:30 p.m.

O Bon is one of the major Buddhist observances during the year. It is a joyous time to remember one’s ancestors, express gratitude for their sacrifices and be with them in spirit.

Saturday’s event will include a mini-bazaar in the mission hall with sushi, baked goods, pickled mangoes and vegetables, nishime and more.

Food concessions will include a teriyaki meat plate, chow fun, Spam musubi, chili with rice, shave ice and cold drinks.

Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the food and dancing. Call 661-0466 for information.
