Salvation Army announces new jobs to aid in wildfire recovery

The Salvation Army is looking for compassionate, dedicated individuals who are ready to make a difference in the lives of those in need.
LAHAINA — The Salvation Army, an institution with a rich history of over 100 years of service in Hawaii, announced the creation of three vital job positions aimed at assisting the island’s residents in their recovery and revitalization efforts.
These new positions come as The Salvation Army remains committed to serving the Maui community following the recent wildfires that devastated Lahaina and West Maui.
For 128 years, The Salvation Army has been a cornerstone of support for Maui residents, offering a diverse range of programs and services, including family stores, food distribution, homeless services, character-building programs, community recreation programs, daycare, music and arts programs, women’s ministries, worship services and much more.
Additionally, the organization plays a crucial role in the community by providing assistance in times of need through emergency disaster services.
Despite the recent loss of its facility in West Maui due to the Lahaina wildfire, The Salvation Army remains unwavering in its dedication to serving the Maui community. The organization continues to operate essential food distribution and feeding programs, and it’s currently providing direct financial assistance to survivors, maintaining a strong presence in the face of adversity and offering a lifeline to those affected by the disaster.
As Maui’s immediate needs for wildfire recovery efforts, such as food assistance, begin to taper off, The Salvation Army is now urgently seeking to fill three key positions to assist in more long-term recovery efforts and support:
Maui Recovery Project Coordinator: This role will focus on planning and overseeing community outreach programs, events and recovery efforts, ensuring that residents receive the support they need to rebuild their lives. This is a new position in the Emergency Disaster Services Department.
Volunteer Coordinator: The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for volunteer program operations, including recruitment, management, training, support, supervision and evaluations of volunteers. Oversight includes community engagement, group volunteer activities, developing partnership and establishing and upholding volunteer policies and procedures in accordance with best practices in the field of volunteerism.
Maui Fires Case Work Specialists (five positions): Provide overall case management for The Salvation Army Maui Fire Early Recovery Program and Long-Term Recovery Program, which will include, but is not limited to, client interviews, case management notes, situation assessments, long term planning, distributing financial assistance, liaison to other community relief agencies, coordination of casework with other community agencies and attendance at meetings pertinent to the long-term recovery case management process in Maui County.
In addition to these openings, The Salvation Army is currently seeking to fill the role of Director of Emergency Services and Safety, which will be based in Oahu.
The Salvation Army recognizes the urgency of these roles in aiding the local community’s recovery and is actively seeking qualified individuals who share their commitment to service. Even in the face of adversity, The Salvation Army remains dedicated to its mission of doing the most good for those in need.
For more information on these job openings, The Salvation Army will be at the Maui Strong job fair in Kihei at Maui Nui on Oct. 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Ka’anapali at Whalers Village on Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All current available positions are also posted online at Salarmyhi.careers.
