By Staff | Jun 23, 2023

Maui Friends of the Library volunteer Sharon Woodall sorts through hundreds of books preparing for the big sale on the lawn of the Puunene Warehouse on Saturday, June 24.

PUUNENE — The Maui Friends of the Library will kick off the summer reading season on Saturday, June 24, with a giant book sale on the lawn of their warehouse in Puunene.

The public can choose up to ten items for $1, including books, CDs and DVDs.

Teachers and home-schoolers can take home books for no charge at all.

“Our warehouse is jammed full,” said Kathy Kirby, manager of the Puunene Store.

“We are so fortunate to have such a big supply of gently used books and other media from community donations that we need to clear our space from time-to-time. We love to be able to offer these incredible bargains.”

The sale runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Shoppers are asked to bring their own bags to carry their purchases.

The Puunene Warehouse is located about a half mile beyond the HC&S sugar mill. Directional signs help guide patrons.

The Maui Friends of the Library is an all-volunteer organization that operates bookstores in the Outlets of Maui in Lahaina, Queen Ka’ahumanu Shopping Center in Kahului and the store and warehouse in Puunene.

All proceeds from the stores go to support Maui County libraries.
