Rotary party was postponed, but the contributions continued

By Staff | Apr 2, 2020

KAANAPALI – The sixth annual “Go for the Green” fundraiser sponsored by the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset was scheduled for Friday, March 13, and was postponed due to the COVID-19 circumstances. But the contributions continued!

President Heidi Dollinger said, “A big mahalo to all who helped by bidding online with the ‘Go for the Green’ Silent Auction! Thank you to our fundraising chair, Liz May, and to every member who helped and supported this auction.

“Members helped by organizing the auction, soliciting prizes, bidding and donating, and promoting the auction on their social media platforms. Having the auction online turned out to be crucial this year, as we did not have a physical event due to COVID-19.”

The online silent auction, in donations and auction prizes, raised $10,741.60.

As part of this figure, individual contributions of $575 for the “Rescue a Rescue Tube” and $550 for “Support a Scholarship” were received as “special items” on the 32auctions online bidding site.

The silent auction site was open from Thursday, March 12, through Tuesday, March 17.

Also included in this figure were major contributions from Lahaina Fish Company and 5A Rent-A-Space.

The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset would like to thank all of the local businesses that provided auction items for this annual fundraising event.

Because the organization received 501(c)(3) status and established The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset Foundation, these providers will receive a mahalo letter that can be used for tax purposes.

The collected funds can be used by the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset to assist and better our community and will fund projects for the coming Rotary year.

Dollinger asked the 36 club members to think about projects they are passionate about and how they would like to focus their club’s efforts.

President-elect Vanessa Moreno will be inviting club members to a visioning session before the end of June to participate and determine priorities for 2020-21 Rotary Year.

The Board of Directors will be meeting in a virtual conference to determine how the club can continue to “meet online” while the COVID-19 restrictions are in place.
