KAHULUI – Ever wonder how Hawaii will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy by 2045? As communities will play an important part in achieving this goal, Hawaiian Electric invites Maui residents to learn more about the work to meet clean energy milestones and take part in the company’s planning process to identify options for moving the islands toward a clean energy future.

The public is invited to join this community discussion on Thursday, March 12, at the Hawaiian Electric-Kahului Auditorium at 210 W. Kamehameha Avenue.

From 5 to 6 p.m., attendees are invited to visit information stations and meet staff to learn about topics ranging from rooftop solar programs to electrification of transportation. A panel discussion will follow from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Participating in the discussion will be Rhiannon Chandler of Waiwai Ola Waterkeepers Hawaiian Islands; Colton Ching, Rebecca Dayhuff Matsushima and Chris Reynolds of Hawaiian Electric; Dick Mayer of the Maui Community Associations; and Michele McLean of the Maui County Department of Planning.

Hawaiian Electric invites community members to ask questions and offer their views as part of Integrated Grid Planning (IGP), a process to identify options for moving Hawaii toward a clean energy future.

As part of the IGP process, Hawaiian Electric is collecting public input and continues to collaborate with working groups, a stakeholder council and a technical advisory panel. These groups attend meetings and workshops, and review data, methodologies and reports to help the company develop strategies used for long-term decision-making relating to the state’s energy landscape.
