By Staff | Feb 27, 2020

NAPILI – Maui Preparatory Academy last week announced its new head of school for the 2020-21 school year, Dr. Miguel Solis.

Dr. Solis has an accomplished history as an educator and leader. He began his career at Our Lady of Loretto in Los Angeles, California, in 2008 as a middle school teacher and dean of discipline, followed by four years teaching at Chaminade College Preparatory, where he also served on the Accreditation Leadership Team Committee.

In 2018, Dr. Solis took the position as school principal of Sacred Hearts School in Lahaina.

Sacred Hearts School has transformed under Dr. Solis’ leadership, and Maui Preparatory Academy is excited about the level of experience and skills that he will bring to MPA.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we are elated to welcome Dr. Solis as our next head of school. His experience, expertise and leadership will further expand on the vision supported by new facilities, infrastructure and technology that is transforming the educational experience on the Maui Prep campus,” Jim Bozich said.

Dr. Solis is particularly excited about joining Maui Preparatory Academy – a school where he can help advance and directly impact students into higher education.

“Maui Prep is a remarkable school providing opportunities for academic achievement and enrichment for motivated and often under-resourced West Maui students and their families. As I graduated from USC, this was one aspect I always wanted to venture into, providing ample opportunities for our youth not only in the innovative ways they learn, but also to be able to dream and bring those dreams to fruition with the colleges or universities they hope to enroll in,” Solis said.

Dr. Solis began partnering with the school’s administration this year and has spent time getting to know the staff and families.

“As the head of school, I will bring vitality and energy into the school’s academic program and work alongside faculty to provide empowering moments to students” he stated.

“I look forward to working with the school community in this new role and contributing to the continued growth and development of a school that so many others have poured their heart and souls into for years.”
