Hurley Lahaina raises $5,000 for LHS Athletic Department
LAHAINA – Hurley Lahaina recently began selling T-shirts, boardshorts and a hat featuring a photo of the royal palms at Lahainaluna High School taken by Kim Ball in a fundraiser for the historic school’s Athletics Department.
Proceeds from the collection generated a $5,000 donation from Hurley Lahaina to the department.
Store Manager Dustin Barton explained, “The idea behind the collection was to celebrate the LHS story and history, celebrate deep Luna pride, generate a donation to Luna Athletics and provide our local customers with this expanded LHS collection. The first collection was a boardshort that was made ten years ago, and this was the second collection that featured more items by local customer requests.”
The “Lahainaluna x Hurley” launch party was held Aug. 23 in the backyard of the 855-C Front St. store. The event featured free hotdogs, giveaways and live music by local alumni musicians 3 Pounds of Kalo.
“As a store on Front Street, we feel it’s our responsibility to be a part of our local community. We do store events, kama’aina discounts and provide exclusive Lahaina items only found at Hurley Lahaina and nowhere else in the world. We sponsor uniforms for the Luna surf teams and the yearly Hurley @ The Harbor surf contest. We wanted to stoke out current Lunas and alumni with this collection,” Barton explained.
