Maui County businesses headline retail success event

By Staff | Mar 28, 2019

WAIKAPU – The seventh annual “Masters of Retail Success” will be held on Tuesday, April 2, in the Nahele banquet room at Kahili Golf Course and feature the success stories of four local Maui entrepreneurs.

This popular event draws business owners from across the community, coming together to celebrate what it takes to succeed in Maui County and to learn from each other’s mistakes and achievements.

John Hau’oli Tomoso and David Kapaku will be the emcees.

Tomoso said, “Given the critical importance of small businesses to our economic ecosystem, we are thrilled to see the diversity of speakers and communities featured this year, spanning three islands and end-to-end across Maui.”

Maui Business Brainstormers’ signature event features stories by exemplars from the Maui County business community who share their business knowledge and motivation with an audience of local small business owners.

At this year’s event, four local entrepreneurs will “talk story” about their road to success and the challenges of running a local business.

The featured businesses include Hana Feast Catering & Events with Hana-based owner and Chef Gary Chow, Lanai Today with Lanai-based owner Alberta De Jetley, L&R Farms with Molokai-based owners Russell and Lynn DeCoite, and Maui Soda & Ice Works with Wailuku-based owners Michael Nobriga and Catherine Nobriga Kim.

Each speaker will share lessons learned, tips and advice that would be helpful to anyone in the local business community. Their stories will tell the tale of how they got the inspiration to start a business, how their big mistakes resulted in new ideas to improve their businesses and fears they had to overcome. Their examples will help local business owners learn how to beat the odds and trends, how to increase brand visibility and connect with customers, and how to reinvent the business to stay in tune with changing times.

The public is invited to the dinner event that begins at 5 p.m. Members will receive a discounted dinner price. Register online to attend the dinner at www.mauibusinessbrainstormers.org.

In addition to a no-host bar, the dinner menu includes Grilled Top Sirloin of Beef with Merlot Demi-Glaze, Smokey Paniolo Baby Back Ribs, Pulehu Mahi-mahi and Island Pineapple, as well as an assortment of sides, vegetables and desserts.

Collaboration, sponsorship and support for the event is provided by RJK LLC, Valley Isle Excursions and Hawaii USA FCU.
