West Maui still has a bookstore at The Wharf Cinema Center
LAHAINA – The Maui Friends of the Library Bookstore is now the only bookstore on the West Side.
The store is located next to the movie theater on the third floor of The Wharf Cinema Center at 658 Front St., across from Lahaina’s famous Banyan Tree.
MFOL is a 100-year-old nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds for Maui County’s public libraries.
The store is managed by Jo Ann Carroll, past owner of The Old Lahaina Book Emporium, and Dale Peterson, former employee of Barnes and Noble in Seattle, Washington.
The entire staff is made up of volunteers who range from retired physicists to ex-school teachers, lawyers and well-read book enthusiasts.
The store carries an extensive line of new Hawaiian titles along with some antique Hawaiian books. It has a large inventory of previously read fiction and non-fiction. MFOL welcomes donations of books, LPs, CDs, DVDs, puzzles and games.
Call 667-2696 to arrange pick-up or donate at the store Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Maui Friends of the Library has three locations on Maui: Puunene (871-6563), Queen Ka’ahumanu Center (877-2509) and Lahaina (667-2696).
Last year, MFOL raised enough money between its three stores to buy a Holoholo Bookmobile for Maui.
