KAPALUA – Kapalua’s rustic Italian restaurant, Taverna, recently presented a check in the amount of $3,100 for programs benefiting Maui youth.
The funds were raised through the Nabavi Legacy Fund dining program. When you dine at a participating restaurant, proceeds from their featured dish are collected and donated quarterly to the program.
“Taverna is proud to present this check to the Nabavi Legacy Fund supporting six local charities here on Maui. We’re happy to be doing it again in 2018,” said Chef Roger Stettler.
Partnered restaurants enrolled in the Nabavi Legacy Fund just featured one dish. Taverna has two: the Spaghetti Carbonara and Carnivore Pizza. These and other dishes on the menu are recipes from Chef Roger’s Italian grandmother and mother.
“We’re very proud as a local independent business to support the awareness of healthy eating and living…. We appreciate the efforts of Paris Nabavi and his desire and passion to bring awareness to the keiki,” said Chef Roger.
“Mahalo Maui and our loyal visitors,” echoed Principal Partner Chris Kaiwi.
Taverna took top honors in Maui No Ka ‘Oi Magazine’s ‘Aipono Awards, with Best New Maui Restaurant, Best Bar, and Best ItalianSilver honors in 2017.

The Nabavi Legacy Fund was created by Chef Paris Nabavi and his wife, Donna, to support programs that nourish the minds and bodies of Maui’s children.
As Maui restaurateurs, “foodies” and parents, Paris and Donna have a particular interest in educating kids to eat healthy, make sustainable food choices and develop a lifelong love of learning – all while having fun.
To achieve this, they have pledged ongoing support to local non-profits whose work aligns with the fund’s mission.
Along with Nabavi’s restaurant, the Nabavi Legacy Fund’s partnered restaurants are Cane & Canoe at Montage Kapalua Bay; Fork & Salad, Kihei; The Mill House, Waikapu; Pizza Paradiso, Honokowai; and Taverna, Kapalua.
The current list of beneficiaries includes Grow Some Good, Imua Family Services, Book Trust, Maui Academy of Performing Arts, Maui Food Innovation Center and American Heart Association (Kids Cook with Heart).
