West Maui Rotary Clubs hold successful School Supplies Drive
LAHAINA – Prior to the opening of the 2017-18 school year, three West Maui Rotary Clubs manned collection tables at the entrances to places of business to collect school supplies and funds for the children of Maui. Collected supplies and funds were distributed to schools for children in need at Princess Nahi’ena’ena Elementary, King Kamehameha III Elementary, Lahaina Intermediate and Hana School.
The Rotary Club of Lahaina collected 20 boxes, 12 bags of supplies and $200, which was delivered to Princess Nahi’ena’ena Elementary School and Lahaina Intermediate School.
The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise collected eight boxes and $93 for the children at King Kamehameha III School.
And the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset collected eight boxes and $500 for the children at Hana School.
Assistant District Gov. Marti Wukelic said, “This is the tenth consecutive year of the Rotary-sponsored School Supplies Drives. Members of the three Rotary Clubs of West Maui wanted to make sure that Rotary Clubs helped to make a difference in the lives of children in need. We wanted to thank the Lahaina News for featuring our drive for three consecutive issues. Our drives were very successful due to this outstanding media coverage.”
This island-wide School Supplies Drive is one of the many community service projects sponsored by the Rotary Clubs on Maui and Lanai.
Rotary is a leadership organization made up of local business, professional and civic leaders. The members meet regularly, get to know each other, form friendships and get things done in the community.
