Sen. Roz Baker to speak at Rotary meeting

By Staff | May 18, 2017

LAHAINA – West and South Maui Sen. Roz Baker will be the speaker at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise on Tuesday, May 23, at 7:30 a.m. at the Pioneer Inn. The public is invited to attend, and the $10 fee includes a full breakfast.

Sen. Baker will present an update on the recent legislative session. Some of the highlights of the session included strengthening condominium laws to empower owners and legislation to improve roads and education. A significant achievement of the session was enhancing the existing Kupuna Care program to fund respite for caregivers. Kupuna Care is a successful state program and the first in the nation to focus on providing support for caregivers. The new legislation will provide additional support to caregivers, so they can keep their jobs and maintain their Social Security eligibility and funds.

Lahaina is home to three Rotary Clubs. Weekly meetings are held at 7 a.m. on Tuesday at Pioneer Inn. Royal Lahaina Resort hosts meetings at noon on Thursdays, as well as the first, third and fifth Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Visitors and community members are always welcome.
