Kolea Restaurant opening in Kahana
KAHANA – Everyday Restaurant Group announces the opening of Kolea in the Kahana Gateway Center. Kolea is a Southeast Asian-inspired Pacific Rim restaurant featuring family-style small plates, craft cocktails and a relaxed, contemporary setting.
The 200-seat, 8,000-square-foot restaurant features an open kitchen, full-service bar, lounge area and dining room. The family-style menu is perfect for sharing with friends and family.
Everything is sustainably made from scratch using locally sourced ingredients like Kauai-grown prawns and Maui-raised beef. Hawaii’s agricultural abundance is the perfect compliment to Kolea’s saucy curries, spicy noodles and fresh salads.
The bar features a wide array of specialty drinks and cocktails, Asian beers and a full wine list.
Kolea is operated by Alison Isabelle and Adam Fuderer, who also run Slappy Cakes in Honokowai.
“I discovered nyonya (Malaysian food) traveling in Asia franchising Slappy Cakes,” said Fuderer. “I thought the blend of Malay, Chinese and Indian cuisines was unlike anything I had ever tasted and the perfect backdrop for a new Pacific Rim concept.”
“One of my main motivations was wanting some more variety in my neighborhood,” said Isabelle. “I wanted a restaurant that was affordable, adventurous and healthy; somewhere to eat anytime.”
Jordan Slone, the executive chef for Slappy Cakes, will oversee all aspects of Kolea’s kitchen operations. He has developed his career as a chef focusing on local sourcing and establishing unique relationships with farmers.
Kolea opens Saturday, Feb. 11, in the top floor of 4405 Honoapiilani Highway, in the old Roy’s space at the Kahana Gateway Center. The restaurant is open daily from 5 to 10 p.m. In addition to dining in, Kolea is available for private events and catering. For more information, e-mail info@koleamaui.com.
