West Maui Soroptimists award scholarships
WEST MAUI – The mission of Soroptimist International of West Maui (SIWM) is to support women and girls, and members have done so for over three decades.
Signature projects include direction and leadership of the annual Lahaina Halloween Keiki Parade and the annual fundraiser/silent auction that Maui merchants support generously.
The Soroptimists’ goal of supporting the growth and development of girls and young women in education and business was recently celebrated.
SIWM donated $500 to Lahaina’s Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Center. Children Services Case Manager Kayla Fagin received the donation for the resource center.
The center assigns each child his or her own case manager to monitor their health, safety and educational growth. Additional funds allow case managers to assist children with helpful resources and coordinate after-school programs.
On Nov. 5, Soroptimist International of West Maui presented the West Maui Rockin’ Wahine Scholarship check of $500 to Tiki Bizbee from Lahaina.
The second scholarship was presented to Kelsey Shultz, a Lahainaluna High School graduate. Her second-year award was $1,000.
Soroptimist International of West Maui is a global volunteer movement, working together to transform the lives of women and girls.
