Lahaina Animal Farm under new ownership
LAHAINA – Lahaina Animal Farm has been acquired by Heidi Denecke and Heather Harkness-Pastrana. The farm – which has been re-named Maui Animal Farm – is located in Launiupoko.
Denecke, leisure sales manager at Classic Resorts, and Harkness-Pastrana, riding instructor and horse trainer, first met at a horse show three years ago and discovered that they both had a vision for a multipurpose equestrian center on Maui’s West Side.
They have established a 501(c)(3) nonprofit for the West Maui Equestrian Center, which plans to offer riding lessons for all ages along with therapeutic riding programs, and in the long term facilities for polo matches on the West Side.
An animal education center was also part of their plan. When Teresa Waters from Lahaina Animal Farm approached them about taking over the business, they were excited about the opportunity.
The daily tours will continue led by Nis Udave, who also cares for the animals and is great with kids of all ages.
Maui Animal Farm offers daily public and private cultural experiences and a petting zoo from 9:30 to 11 a.m., as well as birthday parties by appointment.
Guests have the opportunity to interact with miniature horses, a miniature Sicilian donkey, goats, a tropical ram, tortoises, a Kune Kune pig, chickens, ducks, bunnies, tortoises and guinea pigs.
Special community events are also being planned for the festive season and an Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday.
Kama’aina rates are available with a valid Hawaii driver’s license. For more information, visit www.Mauianimalfarm.com or call (808) 280-2597.
