Maui Filipino Chamber of Commerce Foundation to award scholarships
WAILUKU – The Maui Filipino Chamber of Commerce Foundation this year will award scholarships to 14 graduating high school seniors and one student from the University of Hawaii Maui College Maui Culinary Academy.
“The scholars are all outstanding, having excelled academically and in extracurricular community activities,” said Kit Zulueta, president of the foundation. “We thank our partners and those who helped us raise funds from our golf tournament last month for allowing this to happen.”
The scholarships will be officially presented at the Maui Filipino Chamber’s annual Gintong Pamana Leadership & Scholarship Awards on June 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Maui Beach Hotel. For more information, e-mail info@mauifilipinochamber.com or visit www.mauifilipinochamber.com.
The 2016 scholars are:
Dean Omura will receive a $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation Scholarship. Omura will major in mechanical engineering at University of Portland. He graduated from Lahainaluna High School and is the son of Ulrich Okura Kirkegaard and Nelde Okura Kirkegaard.
Kaylee K. Harmon will receive a $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation Scholarship. Harmon will major in business management at Western Oregon University. She graduated from Lahainaluna High School and is the daughter of Dennis and Michelle Harmon.
Jamie Advincula will receive a $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation/San Juan Mayor Guia Gomez Scholarship. She will major in business-entrepreneurship/marketing at Brown University. Jamie graduated from Maui Preparatory Academy and is the daughter of Juan and Dominga Advincula.
Charwin Kenneth Andaya will receive a $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation Scholarship. Andaya will major in kinesiology at the University of Hawaii (U.H.) at Manoa. He graduated from Maui High School and is the son of Charwin Ganosa and Eden Andaya.
Sherylynne Andrada will receive a $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation Scholarship. Andrada will major in biology at U.H. Manoa. She graduated from Maui High School and is the daughter of Manuel and Florgieli Andrada.
Alssie Marie Jean Casayuran will receive the $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation/Maui Cozy Island Dental Scholarship. Casayuran will major in biology at Pacific University. She graduated from Maui High and is the daughter of Alfonso Casayuran Jr. and Jessebel Dolores Pajela Casayuran.
Thomas Takeo Macadangdang Hayashi will receive a $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation Scholarship. Hayashi will major in environmental science, philosophy at Santa Clara University. He graduated from Seabury Hall and is the son of Duane Takeo Hayashi and Agnes Macadangdang Hayashi.
Alyssa Hernandez Sumibcay will receive a $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation Scholarship. She will major in nursing at U.H. Manoa. She graduated from Baldwin High School and is the daughter of Joroel Sumibcay and Michaelline Hernandez.
Micah Leval will receive the $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation/ Richard Caldito Sr. Scholarship. Leval will major in political economy at U.H. Manoa. He graduated from St. Anthony Junior-Senior High School and is the son of Randal and Joni Leval.
Nicole Kirsten Supnet Neilson will receive a $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation Scholarship. Neilson will major in business at Saint Martin’s University. She graduated from St. Anthony Junior-Senior High School and is the daughter of Ray and Sarah Neilson.
Tara-Ann Marie Pacubas will receive a $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation/San Juan Mayor Guia Gomez Scholarship. Pacubas will major in biological engineering at U.H. Manoa. She graduated from Maui High School and is the daughter of Roland and Maria Carmela Pacubas.
Althea Mae Kaohu R. Pittman will receive a $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation Scholarship. Pittman will major in computer science at U.H. Manoa. She graduated from Baldwin High School and is the daughter of Jeffrey Craig Pittman and Josie Rabang Pittman.
Joshua Kainoa Pulmano Schwartzlow will receive a $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation Scholarship. Schwartzlow will attend Saint Martin’s University. He graduated from St. Anthony Junior-Senior High School and is the son of Karl and Ailene Schwartzlow.
Alyssa Michiko Yoshimura will receive the $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation/Antonio Fartan Ayson Family Scholarship. Yoshimura will major in education at the University of Portland. She graduated from Maui High School and is the daughter of Gary and Michele Yoshimura.
Jayford Agbayani will receive the $1,000 Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation/Maui Culinary Academy Scholarship. Agbayani has been enrolled in the Maui Culinary Academy since the fall 2015 semester. He graduated from Ilocos Norte College of Arts and Trades in the Philippines in 2005.
