KAANAPALI – The Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa recently promoted Lee Otaguro to director of human resources for the resort.

Otaguro joined the Sheraton Maui in 2011, starting out as human resources manager before being promoted to assistant director of human resources in 2015.

In his new role, Otaguro will oversee the resort’s Human Resources Department, focusing on the hotel’s employees and internal service culture.

“Lee is a strong leader with a deep knowledge of Sheraton Maui and the hospitality industry,” said Tetsuji Yamazaki, general manager of the resort.

“We look forward to his continued achievements as he leads the department and helps drive the success of all of our associates and managers.”

Otaguro first joined Starwood Hotels & Resorts as a bus help at The Royal Hawaiian in 1998 before graduating from the associate development program in 2006 and beginning a role as property service culture trainer.

He has also served in multiple other roles, including food and beverage manager, beach and pool manager, training manager and uniformed services manager.

Otaguro has been celebrated as an outstanding Starwood Cares for the Community volunteer. He also received honorable mention as a Manager of the Year nominee for the Hawaii Hotel Association annual award in 2013.
