Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset to host gathering on sustainable landscaping practices
KAANAPALI – In lieu of its regular meeting at the Royal Lahaina Resort on Tuesday, May 3, the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset invites members and guests to the Lanikeha home of Debra Caswell.
Caswell will showcase her successful efforts to create gardens that promote water conservation and embrace the natural landscape. Her four diverse gardens were a two-month project designed along with Navayo Caiserma, owner of West Maui Lawn & Landscape.
Caswell’s gardens include several water-saving features, including two bioswales that catch water runoff and a drip system instead of sprinklers.
The project is an example of a native garden design that is low-maintenance and highlights the connection of landscaping practices to the health of the ocean, particularly its coral reefs.
Pupus and beverages will be provided. Start time is 5:30 p.m. Registration by May 2 is required and should be directed to Sandy Schneider, Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset president, at Sandra.Schneider@starwoodvo.com.
