Zulueta and Belmonte to lead Maui Filipino Chamber in 2016

The 2016 board of directors for the Maui Filipino Chamber of Commerce and Maui Filipino Chamber of Commerce Foundation will be sworn in on Dec. 10.

KAHULUI – The 2016 officers and board of directors for the Maui Filipino Chamber of Commerce and Maui Filipino Chamber of Commerce Foundation were selected at the chamber’s general membership meeting in November.

Elected to serve are President Maria Katrina “Kit” Zulueta, Vice President Joaquin “Jake” Belmonte, Secretary Michelle Santos, Treasurer Dulce Karen Butay and Immediate Past President Melen Magbual Agcolicol.

The new directors are Virgilio “Leo” Agcolicol, Lynn Araki-Regan, Richard Minatoya, Christine Sabado, Alvin Santander, Yuki Lei Sugimura, Jorge Tirona and Sharon Zalsos.

Zulueta currently works as communication director for the Maui County Council, and Belmonte is a chef instructor at the University of Hawaii Maui College’s Culinary Academy and a proprietor of Maui Lifestyle Cuisine LLC.

“I look forward to sharing ideas and my talents to give back to the community in this capacity,” Zulueta said. “It’s a lot of pressure, but I see it as an opportunity to make a difference.”

The 2016 officers-elect will formally take oaths at the chamber’s holiday party on Dec. 10 at 5:30 p.m. at the Nahele Ballroom of The Kalihi Golf Course.

The chamber and its foundation coordinate year-long community events, including business-related workshops, a leadership awards banquet called Gintong Pamana and an annual scholarship golf tournament and festival.

Its mission is to strengthen the position of the growing number of Filipino businesses and professionals on Maui.
