Kaiser, WNBA donate equipment to Maui Family YMCA

By Staff | Nov 5, 2015

KAHULUI – Members of the Maui Family YMCA can get in even more court time with the donation of three new basketball hoops and 20 basketballs from Kaiser Permanente Hawaii.

Kaiser Permanente’s donation was part of the WNBA FIT Clinic hosted in partnership with the Women’s National Basketball Association at the YMCA in October.

Maui Family YMCA welcomed New York Liberty guard Candice Wiggins and clinician Sean Hanrahan to teach the benefits of healthy living and fitness to nearly 100 Maui children and their parents.

At the WNBA FIT Clinic, children practiced basketball skills such as dribbling, passing and shooting, and rotated through additional stations related to speed, agility, strength and sports nutrition.

Young athletes had the opportunity to meet the pros, who discussed healthy living activities, fitness tips and the importance of a healthy diet and hydration.

“We’re happy to provide this gift to the children at Maui Family YMCA to help them stay active and fit in a fun way,” said Dr. Kimberley Wirsing, orthopedic surgeon at Kaiser Permanente’s Wailuku Medical Office.

“We thank the WNBA for partnering with us to engage the youth on our island in healthy activities.”
