T S Restaurants Maui announces concert series
KAANAPALI – Leilani’s on the Beach, Hula Grill and Duke’s Beach House will host a concert series featuring legendary Hawaiian musicians during the week of the XTERRA Kapalua events.
For the fifth straight year, the Maui T S Restaurants will serve as the title sponsor for the XTERRA Trail Runs, and they are thrilled to be able to add this concert series to the event schedule.
The concert schedule is John Cruz at Leilani’s on the Beach on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 2 to 5 p.m.; Raiatea Helm at Duke’s Beach House on Friday, Oct. 30, from 5 to 7 p.m.; and Walt Keale and Andrew & Jay Molina at Hula Grill Kaanapali on Sunday, Nov. 1, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Cruz, a Grammy Award-winning musician, is celebrated for his soulful vocals and unique acoustic style of music.
A slack key master, Cruz’s “One Of These Days” was named one of Hawaii’s greatest albums of the new century by Honolulu Magazine. He is known for popular Hawaiian classics like “Sitting in Limbo,” “Island Style” and “Shine On.”
Renowned songbird Helm is celebrated for her natural leo ki’eki’e (falsetto) voice. Helm is an eight-time Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner, Grammy nominee and winner of the Native Arts and Cultural Foundation’s Fellowship in Music Award. Bring chairs and blankets for additional seating on the grass area.
Keale, a musical storyteller, is known for his original style. Keale’s music resonates the influence of Niihau, the bluegrass of the Dustbowl and the Latino strings of jarocho, cumbia and ranchera.
A father and son duo, ukulele master Andrew Molina and electric bassist Jay Molina will open the show.
The concert series is open to the public with seating in the restaurants. For more information, call or visit Leilani’s on the Beach at 661-4495/www.leilanis.com, Duke’s Beach House at 662-2900/ www.dukesmaui.com, or Hula Grill Kaanapali at 667-6636/www.hulagrillkaanapali.com.
