MPD welcomes new officers

WAILUKU – On July 24, members of the Maui Police Department’s 81st Recruit Class were honored in a graduation ceremony at a luncheon held at the King Kamehameha Golf Course.

Twenty recruits completed eight months of intense physical and academic training before graduating and receiving their badges. The new officers are: Vavi Domingo, Keola McKee, Michael Santos, Joyce Skinner, Ashley Gandauli, Keola Wilhelm, Chase Bell, Lehua Souza, Joseph Alvarez, John Joaquin, Derek Campanelli, Trenton Aurello, William Cleghorn II, Justin Box, Stephan Evangelista, Erik Matsuo, Devion Johnson, Vance Vickers, Michael Ryan and Andrew Spring.

Special awards in the class were: Scholastic Achievement – Erik Matsuo; Neil T. Endo Outstanding Firearms -? Derek Campanelli; M. Cecil Rusty Dickson Physical Fitness – Chase Bell; Outstanding Notebook?- Vavi Domingo; Sensei Shinichi Suzuki Arrest Defense Tactics – Keola McKee; Outstanding Recruit – Chase Bell.
