LAHAINA – John Burkett of Lei Floor and Window Coverings in Lahaina was recently recognized as a Regional Retailer of the Year for 2014 by Mohawk.

Mohawk announced the winners of its National Retailer of the Year awards at its Solutions Convention. The awards recognize the top-performing retailers for both ColorCenter- and Floorscapes-aligned retailer programs.

“This is no easy feat,” noted Jeff Meadows, Jamie Byrne and David Duncan of Mohawk in a letter to Burkett.

“You were selected based on a comprehensive set of criteria – everything from store presence, support of our products, growth, expertise and knowledge to the overall shopping experience you provide consumers who walk into your store.”

Burkett started his flooring career at age 13 attending to warehouse duties and sweeping floors at a store in New York. He quickly moved up the ladder, learning the retail sales and installation of floors.

Due to his drive for success, Burkett became one of the top craftsmen in the New York tri-state area, working with high-end clients such as Oscar De La Renta, Leona Helmsley and Ivana Trump.

Burkett frequently attends conventions on the Mainland to ensure that Lei Floor and Window Coverings Inc. always has the most up-to-date products for his clients.

Being a hands-on employer, Burkett has personally taught the art of installation and takes pride in every job completed.

He has lived in the Hawaiian Islands for over 20 years and resides on Maui with his wife and their two children. As a family, they enjoy going to the beach, playing volleyball and community service.
