MEDB to offer ‘Boosting Your Financial IQ’ workshop

KIHEI – On Wednesday, July 15, Maui Economic Development Board (MEDB) will offer a “Boosting Your Financial IQ” workshop as part of its Technical Assistance Series.
The event will be held at the MEDB Malcolm Center located at 1305 N. Holopono St., Suite 5, in Kihei. Registration will be held from 9:30 to 10 a.m., followed by the seminar from 10 a.m. to noon, lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m. and breakout sessions from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
The workshop offers an ideal opportunity for business owners to receive invaluable advice from accounting experts on how they can improve their business’s efficiency, promote good accounting practices and ultimately save on their taxes.
Topics include how to read a ?nancial statement, how to use ?nancial statements in planning, how ?nancial statements affect taxes (both business and personal), how to know if a business is set-up properly, when to upgrade, and the difference between different entity types, such as sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation and LLC.
Following lunch, three breakout sessions will be offered, and attendees can ask questions specific to their business. Experts will provide input on attendees’ accounting books (what you and your bookkeeper should be doing), financial statements (how to read it, and how to change it to fit your needs), and business set-up (annual registration and converting your business).

Attendees are encouraged to bring a recent personal and business tax return to get the most out of the session. Having a copy of a financial statement will be helpful as well.

The speakers are:
Lisa Wells, an IRS enrolled agent, CEO/founder of Personal Accountant Inc., and a ProAdvisor for Intuit Quickbooks software and online accounting. She concentrates her practice in areas of business review and tax planning, and organization.
Anastasia Winslow, a registered tax return preparer and president of Personal Accountant Inc. Winslow concentrates her practice in areas of income taxation for individuals and businesses. Cross-trained in the Quickbooks online and desktop versions, she is experienced in business set-up, financial statement preparation, payroll and general bookkeeping.

Smith
Chelsea Smith, a registered tax return preparer and associate at Personal Accountant Inc. She concentrates her practice in areas of Quickbooks accounting, both online and desktop versions, and also works remotely for Quickbooks support. Her expertise extends to Quickbooks set-ups, conversion, correction and syncing with third party programs.
MEDB’s Technical Assistance Series was created in an effort to help small businesses establish strong systems, processes, tools and best practices to build a solid foundation for success.
