The Henna Gallery open at The Wharf Cinema Center

By Staff | Mar 12, 2015

The gallery offers henna tattoos and fine art.

LAHAINA – The Henna Gallery recently joined The Wharf Cinema Center’s family of shops and restaurants.

Owner Rosa Sosa started out as a candle artist for many years before she moved to Maui. When she relocated here, she became interested in henna and worked in the industry.

After five years, she received an opportunity to realize her dream and open up her very own henna business. Now, she is able to work with some of the best artists on the island.

Henna is a temporary tattoo made out of crushed leaves and twigs of the henna plant mixed with hot water. This paste can then be applied to the skin in many simple or intricate designs.

The name came about because she wanted to be more than a typical “fly by night” henna shop. Sosa decided to include fine art with her henna tattoo business.

Sosa takes a lot of pride in doing “Henna Halos” for cancer patients. “It really helps boost their spirits; they feel better,” she said.

The Henna Gallery’s mission is to provide people of all ages and walks of life the joy and beauty of quality body art, as well as Maui made art and jewelry.

The Henna Gallery will host its grand opening on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17. Bring the entire family and visit the gallery for free Shamrock tattoos and balloon animals.

The Henna Gallery is located on the Theatre Level of The Wharf Cinema Center adjacent to Cool Cat Cafe. The store is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Visit www.facebook.com/TheHennaGalery for more information.
