By Staff | Mar 5, 2015

LAHAINA – In conjunction with the Lahaina Second Friday Town Party, Soroptimist International of West Maui will hold a silent auction on Friday, April 10.

The silent auction will have unique items to bid on, including Maui restaurant certificates, hotel stays, beauty treatments, spa offerings, luaus, shows, gift baskets and artwork from local artists. The silent auction will open bidding at 6 p.m.; bids will close at 8 p.m.

Soroptimist International is a global women’s organization whose members volunteer to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.

The organization is particularly concerned with providing women and girls access to education, as this is the most effective path to self-determination. The name Soroptimist means “best for women,” and that’s what the organization strives to achieve.

The West Maui Soroptimists have contributed to the community for more than 35 years. The club has awarded more than $25,000 to Women Helping Women, $10,000 to Special Olympics and $5,000 to the Lahaina After School Tutoring Program. Members have organized and hosted the Halloween Keiki Parade since 1968 and donated over $27,000 to Lahainaluna High School seniors.

West Maui Soroptimists have financially supported more than 30 women in the community to accomplish their goals and improve their lives. The club plans to continue its partnership with the Lahaina Resource Center to help the needy during the holiday season.

Proceeds from the annual fundraiser will benefit the Lahainaluna Scholarship Fund. The event is located at Campbell Park along Front Street and is part of LahainaTown Action Committee’s assistance to non-profits.

Winning bids will be distributed at the park from 8:15 to 8:45 p.m. The event is free to the public and sure to have some amazing bargains for everyone.
