Free workshop for commercial fishermen slated in Kihei
KIHEI – The Alaska Marine Safety Education Association (AMSEA) will offer a two-day Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor Workshop in Kihei.
The workshop will be held at the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary at 726 South Kihei Road on Sunday, Nov. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This workshop will cover cold-water survival skills; EPIRBs, flares and maydays; man-overboard recovery and firefighting; immersion suits and PFDs; emergency drills, helicopter rescue, life rafts and abandon ship procedures.
The workshop includes an in-the-water skills practice session.
This workshop meets training requirements for documented commercial fishing vessels operating beyond the federal boundary line.
It is offered to commercial fishermen at no cost, thanks to support from the U.S. Coast Guard and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.
