Tamura Enterprises is a family owned business that goes back four generations.
Maketaro Tamura, a first generation citizen from Japan, founded the first store back in the 1920s. The business was given to his first son, Katsuichi Tamura.
Katsuichi’s son, Herbert, took over the store in 1957 right out of college. Herbert’s son, Glenn, also joined the family business while going to school and working in the store in Waianae, Oahu. The store had many names – it first was Tamura Shoten, K. Tamura Store, then Tamura Superette, its current name.
Herbert and his family decided to leave Tamura Superette in Waianae, and they started a new business. In January 1995, Tamura Enterprises Inc. was established.
Over the years, Tamura Enterprises has grown into three grocery stores on Oahu (Wahiawa, Kalaeloa and Hau’ula); five fine wine locations, with three on Oahu (Waialae, Aikahi and Aiea) and two on Maui (Kahului and Lahaina); and a warehouse distribution center, totaling over 200 employees.
The company features every day low prices at all locations.
Tamura’s Fine Wine & Liquors opened in Kahului in May 2013.
