Montage Hotels & Resorts searching for inspiring young humanitarians

By Staff | Sep 18, 2014

LAGUNA BEACH, Ca. – Montage Hotels & Resorts is rewarding young humanitarians with scholarships to pursue their dreams with the second annual Montage Memory Makers contest.

The luxury hotel group, which includes the Montage Kapalua Bay in West Maui, is casting a search for 13- to 17-year-old young humanitarians who are making impactful changes in their communities based on four criteria: 1) Community service; 2) Impact of achievement on the community and beyond; 3) Creativity of achievement; and 4) Inspirational value to others. Five winners will ultimately be selected, and each will be awarded a $10,000 scholarship to their accredited college or university.

During the entry period from now through Sept. 26, 2014, entrants who meet the contest requirements may visit montagehotels.com/memory and upload a 300-word essay (mandatory) and a video (optional) detailing their efforts to inspire and provide service to their communities.

All contestant entries will be evaluated based on the contest requirements and on their efforts to inspire and provide service to their communities. Ten finalists will be selected by a panel of judges made up of executives and founders of national organizations, including Alan Fuerstman, founder and CEO of Montage Hotels & Resorts; Premal Shah, president of Kiva.org; Charles Best, founder and CEO of Donors Choose.org; and Darell Hammond, founder and CEO of KaBOOM!

The ten finalists will be announced on a social voting platform at montagehotels.com/memory, allowing fans, family and friends to vote for their favorite candidate. The national public voting will determine the final five recipients of the scholarships, who will each receive a $10,000 scholarship to an accredited college or university.

In addition to the $10,000 scholarship, these five winners will receive a trip for two to Montage Laguna Beach to meet with Fuerstman. They will also be highlighted on the contest website and in Montage Magazine’s spring issue as the Montage Memory Maker Ambassadors for 2015.

“At Montage, we strive to serve our communities and work to empower those who make the world a better place,” said Fuerstman. “The Montage Memory Makers contest was created to support young humanitarians who share our dedication to service and philanthropy.”
