5A to host E-waste recycling event

By Staff | Jun 19, 2014

HONOKOWAI – 5A Rent-A-Space in Honokowai, assisted by the Maui County Electronics Recycling Program and Habitat for Humanity, will hold a free Electronic Waste Recycle Event on Saturday, June 21, from 7 to 11 a.m. in its parking lot at 3600 Lower Honoapiilani Road.

5A Rent-A-Space, with the cooperation of the county program, will accept electronic waste equipment and deliver it to Habitat for Humanity’s Re-Store Warehouse in Wailuku for refurbishment or recycling.

5A invites the community to “Help us keep our ‘aina home clean and green. Reduce your waste and recycle items for reuse or proper disposal!”

The following items will be accepted: computer monitors, laptops and computers, telephones and cell phones, stereos and speakers, microwave ovens, video and digital cameras, any equipment with electronic circuit boards, CRT and LCD monitors, keyboards and mice, PDAs and MP3 players, printers, scanners, fax machines, televisions (including plasma screen televisions), DVD and VCR players, and household and power tool batteries.

Large appliances, auto/marine batteries, leaves, landscape trimmings and hazardous waste will not be accepted at the recycling event.

Useable equipment will be donated to Habitat for Humanity families, schools or non-profits. Items that are not useable or re-sellable will be shipped to the Mainland for recycling.

The e-cycling program guarantees responsible recycling of electronics byproducts.

This e-cycling event is one of the many community service activities and projects sponsored by 5A Rent-A-Space, Habitat For Humanity and Maui County’s Recycling Program.

Items may be dropped off at 3600 Lower Honoapiilani Road between 7 and 11 a.m. on June 21.
