WEST MAUI – Honua Kai Resort & Spa and Duke’s Beach House sponsored Trilogy’s Blue ‘Aina Sail on March 9 with a donation of $1,000 to the Monk Seal Foundation and a food sponsorship, respectively.
Blue ‘Aina focuses on supporting local non-profits while cleaning the island’s reefs and shorelines, raising awareness and educating community members about environmental initiatives.
Visitors, volunteers and staff joined in a reef cleanup snorkel sail leaving from Lahaina Harbor to the reef area in Olowalu.
“We were so pleased to be able to partner in support of the Monk Seal Foundation for this event,” said Steven Rose, Honua Kai Resort & Spa general manager.
“Unique to Hawaii and with an affinity to North Kaanapali Beach, the monk seal is dear to our hearts. With less than 1,100 in the wild and a population declining upwards of 4 percent per year, there’s a clear need to help the Hawaiian monk seal now more than ever.”
Trilogy hosts a Blue ‘Aina cleanup on the first and third Sunday of every month. To sponsor a trip, corporations make a donation toward an environmentally or culturally minded nonprofit to serve as that month’s recipients.
