Nolan to chair 2014 Maui County Visitor Industry Charity Walk

Angela Nolan, general manager at the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas, will chair the 2014 Maui County Visitor Industry Charity Walk.
WAILUKU – The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association announced that Angela Nolan will chair the 2014 Maui County Visitor Industry Charity Walk.
The general manager at the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas will oversee the walk held on Maui, Molokai and Lanai.
“As the 2014 Charity Walk chairperson, I am honored to represent the residents of Maui County. I have been blessed to call Maui my home since 1997 and fell in love with the island, its people and the culture well before then. To lead the charge for such an incredible cause is truly a privilege,” stated Nolan.
In 2013, Maui County alone raised $835,557 – 85 percent more funds than Oahu, with 59 percent fewer walkers.
In the last four years, Maui has raised more money than Oahu, and Maui County has raised more dollars on a per capita basis since 1981.
For this reason, Statewide Charity Walk Chair Kelly Hoen, general manager of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, decided that it’s time for some friendly competition amongst the islands.
She announced the first annual Mayor’s Challenge. The county with the largest year over year percentage growth wins.
The Charity Walk is one of the largest single-day fundraising events in Hawaii. Statewide, more than $1.6 million was raised via walks held on Oahu, Kauai, the Big Island, Maui, Lanai and Molokai.
Since the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association started hosting the event in 1980, Maui County has raised a cumulative total of $7.5 million, benefitting hundreds of nonprofit organizations on Maui, Molokai and Lanai.
All of the funds raised on Maui remain in Maui County to benefit the local community and residents.
MHLA is a nonprofit organization founded in 1987 to advocate for the visitor industry. The organization provides educational opportunities through the Academy of Hospitality & Tourism and scholarships for University of Hawaii Maui College students, and benefits the community through the annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk, Excellence in Education golf tournament and Kupuna Dinner. For information, contact MHLA at 244-8625 or info@mauihla.org.
