Family works with villages around the world creating unusual gift items for Banana Wind
LAHAINA – It was always a dream of owner Nina Mehring to travel with her two children (Zeb, 15, and Marley, 12), hoping to instill in them more global and cultural awareness.
Banana Wind was born eight years ago to facilitate that travel by developing home accent and gift items inspired by their home on Maui. Zeb takes on the leadership role of financier, Marley as designer, and Nina as the glue that holds it all together. It is truly a family run business in every aspect.
Many natural resources and materials found in Hawaii are not sustainable (or even prohibited to collect from the islands), so they make sure they use materials found sustainably in other parts of the world, and at the same time, help individual families from all over. This guarantees a store filled with eco-friendly, sustainable, unique items found nowhere else.
Items include home accent pieces, such as baskets, artwork, candles, incense, jewelry, ceramics, wood carvings and picture frames, to name a few. They also boast Hawaii’s largest sea shell collection.
Everything in Banana Wind has its own story… where it came from, what it’s made of, what makes it unique or what inspiration it was drawn from. Travel with their family through the items and stories found only at Banana Wind at Lahaina Cannery Mall. Call (808) 661-1600 or visit www.bananawindhawaii.rr.com.
