5A to host E-waste recycling event
HONOKOWAI – 5A Rent-A-Space in Honokowai, assisted by the Maui County Electronics Recycling Program and Habitat for Humanity, will hold an Electronic E-Cycling event on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 7 a.m. to noon in 5A’s parking lot at 3600 Lower Honoapiilani Road.
5A Rent-A-Space, with the cooperation of the county program, will accept electronic waste equipment and deliver it to Habitat for Humanity’s Re-Store Warehouse in Wailuku for refurbishment or recycling.
5A invites the community to “join us as we work to keep our island home clean and green!”
The following items will be accepted: televisions, keyboards, laptops, computers and monitors, personal digital assistants (PDAs), MP3 players, CRT and LCD monitors, printers, scanners, DVD and VCR players, telephones, cell phones, fax machines, stereos, speakers, video and digital cameras and microwave ovens.
Recyclables include items with electronic circuit boards – computers and televisions – and everything that attaches to them, as well as audio, phone and most office equipment. No appliances or hazardous waste will be accepted.
Useable equipment will be donated to Habitat for Humanity families, schools or non-profits. Items that are not useable or re-sellable will be shipped to the Mainland for recycling.
The e-cycling program guarantees responsible recycling of electronics byproducts.
This e-cycling event is one of the many community service activities and projects sponsored 5A Rent-A-Space, Habitat for Humanity and Maui County’s Recycling Program.
Items may be dropped off at 3600 Lower Honoapiilani Road between 7 a.m. and noon on Oct. 19. For more information, call Liz May at 669-5200 or e-mail liz5a@aol.com.
