County, SLIM to hold Solar Summit
WAILUKU – The public is invited to discuss the latest solar issues at a Solar Summit on Friday, May 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pilina Building multipurpose room at the University of Hawaii Maui College.
Anyone interested in learning about solar photovoltaic (PV) systems is encouraged to attend. Industry representatives are also welcome.
Changes to the state tax credit made during the 2013 Legislative Session will be discussed.
The Solar Summit – presented by the County of Maui and Sustainable Living Institute of Maui (SLIM) – will address questions such as:
Are there circuits on Maui that are “closed off” to new PV systems? Where?
If I pay for an interconnection study, what are the chances it will allow me to install solar?
Do I need county permits and MECO pre-approval? How long does that take?
What is Public Utilities Commission Rule 14H, and how does it affect me?
Are we installing as much solar PV as last year in Maui County?
What about off-grid systems? Are people putting them in?
The summit agenda includes remarks by Mayor Alan Arakawa on the demand for solar-generated electricity in Maui County, Q&A about state tax credits for solar PV systems, and a panel discussion by solar PV experts.
Lunch will be provided for $5 with advance reservation. Call the SLIM office at 984-3379 or e-mail sliminfo@hawaii.edu to register.
