Theatre Theatre Maui’s Board of Directors appointed Angela Thompson its incoming executive director following a recent meeting of the nonprofit organization, which is now in its 21st year of serving the West Side community.

LAHAINA – The Board of Directors of Theatre Theatre Maui (TTM) has appointed Angela Thompson the drama group’s next executive director.

She will succeed Louisa Shelton effective April 1.

The nonprofit organization has been serving the West Side community since 1991.

Its mission is “to provide a full spectrum of hands-on theater experiences for the children and adults of the West Maui community.”

Thompson brings to TTM her shared passion for the performing arts along with an impressive office and organizational background.

Prior to moving to Maui a couple of years ago, she worked for the State of California in various administrative and analyst positions and served on the board of a nonprofit theater.

She also brings many years of theatre experience, both onstage and by providing technical experience as an integral part of many productions.

“We are delighted to have Angie join us in our continued efforts of serving our West Side community,” remarked Penny Wakida, TTM president, who joined the board with Shelton in 1992.

“This grassroots organization is now serving the next generation of youth, including my grandchildren and so many others in our community.”

Earlier this month, TTM wrapped up after-school drama classes at Lahaina Intermediate School in its fifth year of partnership with the Lahaina Complex Tutor Project.

Scheduled for April and May are Monday afternoon improv classes with the “Drama Queen,” Kristi Scott, for members of the Boys and Girls Club in Lahaina.

TTM’s program plans now are focused on arrangements to produce its 21st summer youth performing arts program held in Lahaina, presenting public performances of a selected musical at the end of a five-week camp.
