Popular band signs on for Mardi Gras event

By Staff | Mar 7, 2013

LAHAINA – The popular JD on the Rocks band that wowed guests at the Rotary Club of Lahaina’s “Savor the Sunset” library benefit last summer has signed on for a return engagement March 23 for the 22nd annual Mardi Gras celebration and scholarship benefit called “Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler” (Let the Good Times Roll). Residents and visitors are invited.

Tickets available from Rotary members or by calling 5A Rent-A-Space are expected to sell out rapidly, President Liz May said.

Guests at the New Orleans-themed benefit will step into a darkened venue at the Royal Lahaina Resort at 6 p.m. to find New Orleans dcor, a big dance floor and a spread of mouthwatering Louisiana-style food and drink from Chef Bernardo Salazar.

Salazar and the Royal Lahaina staff led by Rotarian and Marketing Manager Liz Bell typically go all-out to make this a fun-filled event well worth $75 a ticket.

There is the added benefit of aiding college-bound students with scholarships.

“Our goal is to raise $30,000 to assist deserving high school students with as many scholarships as we can fund to help send them to college,” May said.

Strong support from the Lahaina business community will power a silent auction featuring tours, hotel stays and gourmet restaurant meals that can often be acquired at bargain prices.

The more auction items are donated, the more scholarships the club will be able to award.

Tickets are $75 each or $650 for a VIP table of ten.

Call (808) 669-5200 to reserve tickets or donate auction items.
