Santa gets shaved at the Kapalua Spa

Lonnie Biddix plays Santa each year at The Kapalua Villas.
KAPALUA – On Dec. 28, Santa got a post-holiday makeover at the Kapalua Spa’s new Barber Shop.
Santa promised he would shave his beard if the Kapalua Spa was able to raise at least $1,000 for The Maui Farm “Angels of Aloha” holiday program. The spa raised $1,500.
The Angels of Aloha program provides gifts for children, youth and families who reside at The Maui Farm and participate in the agency’s Family Strengthening and Independent Living programs.
“Santa” is actually Lonnie Biddix of The Kapalua Villas’ Service Maintenance Department. Biddix plays the part of Santa every year for the staff.
He now has a year to grow the beard back in time for next Christmas.
Cecilia Hercik, Kapalua Spa director, came up with the idea. The spa is launching a new barber service and thought this would be a fun, creative way to get the word out about this new offering.
“I got inspired about helping this charity when I heard about Maui Farm’s teaching less fortunate families important life skills,” said Hercik.
“Enlightening families with the skills to become self-sufficient and provide for their ohana is something that is close to my heart. Therefore, we decided to create a fundraiser by using our brand new Barber Shop and a little help from Santa. I knew this would be a fun event while raising money for this great cause.”
Local company Maui Toy Works provided 25 percent off on toy purchases for the charity.
