Lions to collect slippers for West Maui students

The West Maui Lions Club adopted Honoapiilani Highway Mile Marker 18-20, and a strong team of nine Lions collected 27 bags of trash on June 30. “It was hot, but with great enthusiasm and dedication, the highway looks much better... the club enjoyed working in the community and looks forward to forthcoming cleanups. Thanks to President Donald Young, Linda, Dennis, Barbara, Mel, Bobby, Shannin, Eric and Rachel for the service provided,” the club noted.
LAHAINA – The West Maui Lions Club will hold its fourth annual Slipper Drive on Saturday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of Longs Drugs at Lahaina Cannery Mall.
All slippers will be distributed to West Maui elementary schools to give to students who need slippers.
According to Linda Elms, West Maui Lions secretary, “This year, we are expecting over 400 pairs of slippers and have already started receiving donations from our Mainland supporter, Walter Paladino, M.D., from Warren, Ohio, who contributed $400 towards this year’s slipper drive.
“Mary Duke of Teen Straight Talk, who is also a member of our West Maui Lions Club, and surrounding communities in Ohio are also collecting slippers to ship to Maui in support of our drive,” she continued.
“All Lions Clubs of Maui will also drop off slippers and donations. We want this to be a huge success and one of our largest slipper drives, so we need support from our community. Please stop by and drop off slippers or make a contribution, so we can make sure our children are taken care of should they break their slippers during school or need slippers to wear.”
