KAANAPALI – Duke’s Beach House recently recognized Lora-lea LaMarre, Sarah Williams and Kihei Burgess as the “Educator of the Month” for November, December and January, respectively.
The Princess Nahi’ena’ena Elementary School educators were selected based on their outstanding commitment to the betterment of the community through education.
“Educators play such an important role in shaping the minds of the younger generation,” said Shaughn Helliar, general manager at Duke’s Beach House.
“It’s an honor to recognize Ms. LaMarre, Ms. Williams and Mr. Burgess for their hard work and commitment to Maui’s youth.”
A first grade teacher, LaMarre enjoys seeing the growth students make throughout the school year. She also appreciates how each student’s personality helps to shape the classroom experience.
Her most memorable moments in education are when she hosts the end-of-the-year party, where students’ families are invited to celebrate the children’s accomplishments. LaMarre has been an educator for five years.
Williams is also a first grade teacher at Princess Nahi’ena’ena Elementary. Having taught on Maui for four years, Williams looks forward to many more years of working as a teacher and making a difference with Maui’s youth.
Williams’ most memorable experience at Nahi’ena’ena was when a student asked her what she does for work, because it meant the students see her as someone who is there to spend time with them and help them learn – not just to work.
Burgess is in his first year as a grade 3-5 counselor at Princess Nahi’ena’ena Elementary. He enjoys being able to provide students with the encouragement and guidance they need to succeed.
Burgess’ most memorable moment was when the students, faculty and staff cheered when he was presented with the “Educator of the Month” award. He felt truly honored and appreciated.
