Hospital appoints new cardiac surgeon

WAILUKU – Maui Memorial Medical Center (MMMC) last week announced that cardiac surgeon Dr. Michael H. Dang will begin working at the hospital on Feb. 14, 2012.

Dang will join MMMC’s Maui Heart and Vascular Clinic located at 1849 Wili Pa Loop in Wailuku. He will also continue to see patients on the Big Island after joining the center.

Currently a cardiac surgeon at the Queen’s Medical Center, Dang was born in Honolulu and attended St. Louis High School.

He graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado. He completed his residency at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, in General Surgery, Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery under Dr. Michael B. DeBakey, a world-renowned pioneer in the field of cardiovascular surgery.

In addition to his work as a cardiac surgeon, Dr. Dang was previously the chief of surgery and chief of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at The Queen’s Medical Center.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, Dang was on the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine prior to his return to Hawaii in 1979.
