Foundation gifts $50,000 to Maui Memorial Medical Center Foundation
WAILUKU – Hawaiian Electric Industries Charitable Foundation recently awarded a $50,000 grant to the Maui Memorial Medical Center Foundation to support MMMC’s new Heart Brain & Vascular Center.
The $50,000 gift comes from two sources: $15,000 from American Savings Bank and $35,000 from Maui Electric Company, both of which operate under parent company Hawaiian Electric Industries.
With the launching of MMMC’s “24/7” Heart Brain & Vascular Center, Maui residents no longer need to travel to Oahu for procedures such as angioplasty or open heart surgery.
In addition, patients’ families will no longer have to take time off from work, find child care or make other arrangements in order to travel with and care for their sick family member.
Providing these critical services here on Maui also saves lives.
“A strong healthcare facility is an essential component of a thriving community,” said MECO President Ed Reinhardt.
“With the recent addition of the Heart Brain & Vascular Center, MMMC is well-equipped to provide immediate care for Maui families right here at home. It’s our privilege to contribute to something as important as the health and well-being of our community.”
MMMC Foundation recently embarked on a $2 million “SEED” Campaign to support Space, Equipment, Education, and Delivery of improved healthcare services for Maui.
The campaign will focus on providing additional space for the new cardiovascular team, continuing education for clinical staff to improve quality and delivery of healthcare, and new state-of-the-art equipment that will allow Maui residents to receive the best possible treatments.
“A big mahalo to Hawaiian Electric Industries Charitable Foundation for their commitment to our community,” said MMMC Foundation Executive Director Lani Correa.
“As most Mauians have either had loved ones cared for at MMMC, or have been treated at MMMC themselves, HEI’s gift will positively impact all of us for years to come.”
