Maui Fire Department announces three promotions

By Staff | Nov 17, 2011

WAILUKU – Maui Fire Department last week announced three promotions.

Louis Romero was promoted from captain to battalion chief, Kevin McAfee rose to the rank of captain and Roderick Quintana was promoted to Fire Fighter III.

Romero has been with the department for 21 years. He is currently assigned to the Kahului Fire Station, where he works out of the Hazardous Materials & Special Training Division.

Coordinator of MFD’s grants team, Romero has helped the department obtain an estimated $11 million over the last nine years. These grant funds helped buy needed equipment, such as fire trucks and Molokai’s new rescue boat.

Romero is also a member of the newly formed, multi-agency All Hazards Incident Management Team, which will provide support during natural or man-made disaster events.

“The last 21 years has been very rewarding for me,” Romero said, “I enjoy serving my community.”

McAfee has been with the department for nearly 18 years.

He was stationed with Rescue 10 out of Kahului and this week transferred to Ho’olehua on Molokai.

Quintana is a nine-year veteran with MFD. He has held assignments in Ho’olehua, Napili and Kihei. He is headed back to Ho’olehua this week.
