Maui’s Visitor Industry Charity Walk will begin at War Memorial Soccer Field at 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 14.

WAILUKU — Put on your walking “slippahs” and get ready for a fun-filled day at the 33rd annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk.

This year’s walk, themed “Put Your Best Slippah Forward,” will take place Saturday, May 14, at War Memorial Soccer Field.

Registration begins at 6:30 a.m., and the 5K walk starts at 7 a.m.

The Charity Walk is a statewide event that occurs on Oahu, Maui, the Big Island, Molokai and Kauai each year. Now in its 33rd year, the walk is one of the largest single-day fundraising events by a nonprofit organization in the State of Hawaii.

Since its inception in 1978, more than $20 million has been raised, benefiting hundreds of local charities throughout the state.

Last year, more than 10,000 walkers statewide raised over $1 million to benefit 190-plus local charitable organizations.

“The Charity Walk is the visitor industry’s way of contributing to local charities while having fun,” said Mufi Hannemann, president of the Hawaii Hotel & Lodging Association.

“We strongly believe in giving back to the community, especially during these challenging times.”

On Maui, more than 1,600 participants raised $354,000 to benefit 70-plus Maui County charities. All funds raised on Maui stay in Maui County.
