KAANAPALI — Duke’s Beach House recently recognized Sandy Kukahiko and Lillian Catugal of Princess Nahi’ena’ena Elementary School as “Faculty and Staff Members of the Month” for December and January, respectively.

Kukahiko and Catugal were selected based on their outstanding performance and long-standing commitment to the school and its students.

Kukahiko, a third grade teacher, was named the December “Educator of the Month.” Kukahiko has worked as a teacher for 26 years, including ten years at Princess Nahi’ena’ena.

Her most memorable experience at the school was watching the students perform songs and dances at the annual celebration in honor of the school’s namesake.

Catugal, the student services coordinator clerk, was the January honoree.

Catugal has worked at Princess Nahi’ena’ena School for nine years. She is responsible for coordinating various resources within the school and community that will help maximize students’ learning opportunities.

Her most memorable experience was a rainy day when she helped to shuttle excited kindergartners into the cafeteria.

“Mrs. Kukahiko and Mrs. Catugal both work so hard to ensure that their students receive a great educational experience,” said Shaughn Helliar, general manager of Duke’s Beach House.

“Duke’s is more than happy to recognize both of them for their outstanding work and dedication to our local children.”

Kukahiko and Catugal were each presented with a $100 gift certificate to Duke’s Beach House as recipients of the award.
