Hawaii Hotel & Lodging Association honors workers

HONOLULU — The Hawaii Hotel & Lodging Association’s Na Poe Paahana (the hardworking people) awards luncheon was recently held at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa.

The annual statewide luncheon honors Hawaii’s top hospitality industry employees.

Recipients of HHLA accolades are selected based on nominations submitted by their supervisors and coworkers, and they are judged on the basis of outstanding and exceptional service to hotel guests, coworkers and the community.

Approximately 680 people attended the 21st annual luncheon emceed by Shannon Scott and Augie T. of KCCN FM 100 radio.

The Hawaii Hotel & Lodging Association’s Outstanding Lodging Employee of the Year is Nancy Gorospe, a fountain dispenser at the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa.

Maui Na Poe Paahana award winners include: Outstanding Lodging Employee of the Year — third place, Gilbert Shibao of the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa; Bell/Valet Person of the Year — first place, Jeff Montoya of the Sheraton Maui; Engineering/Maintenance Person of the Year — first place, Gary Asio of the Sheraton Maui; Food & Beverage Person of the Year — third place, Sam Delos Santos of the Royal Lahaina Resort; Front Office Person of the Year — second place, Noah Berkey of the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa; Housekeeper of the Year — second place, Rudy “Rudez” Melchor of the Grand Wailea.
