LAHAINA — Specializing in frozen yogurt, Island Froyo opened on Nov. 7 at Old Lahaina Center next to Cilantro Grill.

The new store offers island favorite flavors of frozen yogurt and fresh fruit toppings, 100 percent Maui coffee, fresh-to-order mini-waffles and traditional Belgian waffles.

“What is unique about Island Froyo is that my wife and I really wanted to design it based on the things that are important to us,” said Deason Kaohelo Baybayan III, who owns the store with his father, Deason K. Baybayan Jr.

“Christ and family are very precious to us, and we truly are blessed.”

Baybayan invites kama’aina parents to throw keiki parties at the store.

“They may bring their cakes and decorations and enjoy all the yogurt and toppings and waffles they want for 35 cents an ounce… We love the keikis,” he said.

Sundays from 6 to 8 p.m., the shop holds “Family Fro-Yo Night.” Frozen yogurt is just 35 cents an ounce.

Everything in the store is sold at 45 cents per ounce except the $1 drinks and coffee.

Store hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. For information, call (808) 250-5168 or e-mail islandfroyo@aol.com.

“We were blessed to have such wonderful people to help build this shop from the ground up. I also have to give a special thanks to my father, for without his help, this would not have been possible,” he concluded.
