Martin & MacArthur opens first Makai store at Westin
KAANAPALI — The first Martin & MacArthur Makai store opened at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa on July 23.
Martin & MacArthur CEO Michael Tam plans to open a number of resort-focused Makai stores over the next 18 months.
The 1,200-square-foot store is located near the Westin’s main lobby and Colonnade Cafe.
Martin & MacArthur Makai is a visitor store with less square footage and a focus on merchandise hand-selected by Tam for its appeal to guests of Hawaii’s finest beach resorts.
Makai stores will operate with significantly longer hours than others in the company: from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
The new store features the company’s own koa furniture and home accessories made in Hawaii, as well as gifts for entertainment.
Jon Hughes serves as manager of the new Makai store, which hired four new employees.
The company has two Martin & MacArthur-branded stores on Maui at Whalers Village and The Shops at Wailea.
In partnership with The Westin Maui, the store will host regular events for hotel guests to showcase artists-in-residence as they create their works.
