HONOKOWAI — Duke’s Beach House recently honored Linda Matsui as the first recipient of its new Educator of the Month Program.

Each month, Duke’s will select an educator who demonstrates dedication and commitment to Maui’s students.

“Duke’s Beach House is excited to showcase extraordinary teachers through our Educator of the Month Program,” said Shaughn Helliar, the restaurant’s general manager.

“We’re proud to recognize individuals like Mrs. Linda Matsui who lead by example and are making our island a better place to live.”

A first grade teacher at Princess Nahienaena Elementary School, Matsui was awarded the Educator of the Month Award on her very last day in the classroom. She retired after 38 years of teaching.

According to Duke’s, Matsui willingly shared her teaching know-how and talents with others. Admired for her true passion for teaching, she brought out the best in her students.

Matsui challenged herself, as well as her students, to accomplish their goals through discipline, responsibility and a “can do attitude.”

Matsui was presented a $100 gift certificate to Duke’s Beach House for receiving the award.
